I am having the same issue. Wondering if the software update that occurred in Sept. is the cause. A/C turns on fine, but heat turns orange as if it's heating, but boiler does not do anything. If I do the same from the basement thermostat (not a Nest), it works fine.

San issue please help

I’m also having the same issue (although it works fine during the day and just seems to stop working at night). I’ve had to turn the heating on manually via the Heat Link.

I have this same problem. Were you able to resolve it?

FYI, I called Google Next support and they walked me through a number of tests. The backplate on my thermostat is bad and they are sending a warranty replacement.

What number did you call? My house is freezing and can’t get the heat to come on!

I called 855-469-6378. However, it took 6 days for the backplate to arrive and it made no difference. I've been activating my heat by touching the power (Rh) and head (W1) wires together for the past week while I wait. I called Google Nest support again and they ran me through another hour of troubleshooting. They couldn't figure it out so they are just sending me another backplate. No idea why they don't send an actual thermostat replacement. This time it will be 7-10 days because I already have an RMA replacement and they have to figure out how to give me another one. Apparently, their system won't let them do this. I have high doubt another backplate will work anyway. Needless to say, I'm not impressed with this support experience.

Hey @paulzell06. I'm glad to hear that you've managed to get a resolution already.

Hey @andychoc and @Kickielil. Have you seen any messages on the thermostat display?

Christian i think mine came up as e22 or something like that, i googled it and i think the problem is no C wire is connected

I m facing same problem and having n72 error. Everything was working fine till now.ac works fine. But heat is not turning on. Checked everything..HVAC fuse..drain clog .. everything is fine..can someone please help? Called Google nest but no help.

Hi sorry for late reply but no I’m not seeing any error messages. I’m going to reset the thermostat today & see if that resolves it - I’ll report back.

I did a restart of the thermostat and the heat link but it hasn’t resolved the problem 😞

I'm having g this same issue. One of my three (small but tall house) stopped connecting to the internet all of a sudden and they sent a replacement but now this replacement one doesn't turn on the heat at all. Or does so only sometimes. And I know it's the thermostat itself because I pulled it off the back plate and switched it with one of the others and the one I put there from downstairs is working fine on that back plate. Seems like this is a widespread recent issue. Gonna try to get on sith support after work and see what these trouble shooting steps are they ran Paul through and see if any of them work or is they send me ANOTHER thermostat after this one has only been installed for less than a week.

An update. The one that was having this issue suddenly started working again a few weeks ago. Then just yesterday one of the other two we have (not the same one that was having the issue the first time) has suddenly starting having the same problem on a completely different back plate. This is clearly an issue and google is not solving it. Their only solution was to replace it again the last time I contact support but it started working again so we did not do that. Now another one having the issue. These things cost too much to be having widespread unresolved or even unacknowledged issues. They are more problems than they're worth.

Another update on mine: the thermostats will randomly stop working and then start working again after a few days. And it's not even just the one that got replaced recently as stated in my very first reply to this thread. It is ALL three randomly going in and out of service. And I know for sure it is not my wiring or my heating system, it is for sure the thermostats because when one stops working I can switch it with a working one and the working one will continue to work at that spot while the non working one will still not work at its new spot. This is ridiculous. Support is no help, they want to just keep replacing my units but I can't just replace all three and hope that works. This is clearly something they need to figure out at a manufacturing level and yet they're not.

I just installed my unit today. All wiring was correct. I checked compatibility. A/C turned on instead of heat and the furnace wasn't queuing for heat. After reading the threads, I figured it could be a faulty backplate. I switched the heat (white) and A/C (yellow) wires. Problem solved - manufacturing flaw. I hope Google figures this out.

We are having this same issue. We’ve had our Nest for years and it’s worked just fine. Got a new furnace 2 weeks ago and Nest still worked just fine. Got a new wifi router about a week ago…hooked that up seemed to work fine until about 4 days ago when Nest on my phone and on the display started saying it was running but it’s not. It’s getting down into the 50’s and my son is sick and the heater will not turn on.  Support had us mess around and switch wires… got the heater to turn on, but once it shut off that was it. Have not been able to run it again since.
please tell me there is a solution to this!

Same issue as many others here. Heat wont turn on when it turns orange and appears to be like it has since I moved in to this house in 2017. It flipped on briefly overnight but now my house is in the 50s and I tried turning off ECO and toggled with schedule, all to no avail. Help!

Hi Zbomb8, for me, after hours on the phone with support on multiple occasions, I had to insist that they provide me with a whole unit replacement. That did fix the issue for me. However, I've been fighting with them for weeks because google charged me for the first backplane replacement even through I send it back well within the time period. They somehow got the multiple RMAs mixed up and still have not agreed to provide me a refund. I keep being told that, "order management needs to review". This is the worst customer service experience I've received in a long time. Google ruined NEST and I will never buy another Google product.

Same issues here as well. Mostly occurs in the morning. Nest will be orange, indicating it is heating, but heat is not running. If I manually turn the dial then click to set, it starts right up. This started in October / November. Sometimes it will go a few days with no issues, then I’ll have several days in a row where it’s not working properly.

After it was installed, my new Google Nest thermostat worked as advertised for a few weeks. I set a schedule so it would turn on at 6:30 in the morning, heat the house to 66 degrees, and hold it at that temperature until 10:30 at night. I would adjust the heat up or down during the day as needed,

But now, periodically it will indicate it's heating - -the thermostat on the wall will glow orange, the setting on the thermostat will show it's set to my desired temperature, it says it's colder than that in the house, and yet the furnace will not be run. That problem is happening now.

After trying everything I can think of, both with the app and with the Nest thermostat on the wall, I finally decided to try resetting it. I did, and when the Nest came back online the furnace immediately started up, and the display and the app said it was going to heat the house to my desired temperature and hold it at that temperature until the time I had set earlier GREAT!

EXCEPT – in less than a minute the furnace stopped running, and once again no matter what combination of actions I try with the app and on the Nest on the wall, I cannot make the furnace heat the house. It's currently 63 degrees in the house. The app says it's holding the temperature at 67 degrees until 10:30 p,m., BUT THE FURNACE IS NOT RUNNING!

HELP!

What the he** is going on! How to I make this Nest thermostat do what I ask it to do?

The controls for the Google Nest Thermostat are not intuitive – not user friendly. Google needs to have a User Experience guru look at the App and the controls on the thermostat itself and make it more intuitive and idiot-proof. As-is, the App, especially, reminds me of something designed by a programmer who assumes everyone thinks like he does and assumes the user can read his mind.  The menu on the app is too convoluted.  It is not at all obvious how to do what you want to do.

The this juncture I would tell anyone thinking about buying a Google Nest product, DON'T DO IT!
