Nest

Installed two nest thermostats.  One works but can’t connect to second.  I’ve tried manually restarting but it keeps saying that I need a factory reset.

I would like to have advice on how I reconnect without messing up my one that works!

I read somewhere else that having Access Points might be causing the issue, I do have 2 AP's for wireless so I removed one which forced both Nest's to use the same one.  That did not solve the problem.  I removed the existing Nest and added the new one because that was also a posted fix, I did that, added the new one and tried adding the original.  That did not work.  I finally found a post where someone said I needed to add a new location, so basically two homes, that is what ended up working for me.  I don't feel this is a resolution I feel like this is a work around.  Now I can use both units independently of the other, they are not aware of the other and I have to click on 2 different "homes" to get things done but at least I can get to both units from the same app.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about your experiences with your Nest thermostat devices as well as for the delayed response.

SamIam7, glad to hear that you've found a workaround although you need to always switch between two homes.

Ank, are you getting a specific code or message when adding the second thermostat to your Nest app? If yes, what is it? Also, could you provide a rundown of the steps that you've already tried so we could pick up from where you've left off?

Best,

Melba

Hello Melba,

The work around is working, however, I feel like there should be an actual solution to this.  Nest markets the value of having multiple devices in the same home, this should work.

Hey SamIam7,

I understand how  you feel. Are you getting a specific code on your thermostat display or Nest app when going through the setup process? If yes, what is it?

I would also recommend that you check on this link for specific troubleshooting guides that you can try: https://bit.ly/3oukGAo

Hi Melba,

I did try those steps and still get the TD030 error.  Any other advice?

Thanks!

Hey there,

Thanks for trying and for getting back at us. Just to confirm, you checked on the Multicast settings of your router if it supports Multicast on internal networks, which is required for the Nest thermostat, right? Also, to fully isolate the concern, is it possible for you to try setting up your thermostats on a mobile hotspot if they successfully connect to a single home/structure on your Nest app?

Best,

Melba
