I tried installing a new Thermostat E purchased few years, so the warranty has expired, and I'm unable to connect to a wifi network as it's in "searching" mode for hours. I've tried resetting to factory default several times and reset my router, and still no luck. I've also checked the base plate with another Nest Thermostat E and that unit worked fine and was able to connect to a wifi network quickly. It doesn't show a w5 error message since it hasn't been fully set up, so no software updates since original factory settings.
It seems I have a defective unit and google won't replace it because the warranty has expired...even though google has acknowledged this is a known issue and won't replace the unit regardless of warranty status. But here's a quote from a google spokesperson addressing the issue to The Verge:
“A very small number of Nest thermostat users are experiencing a known issue with the Wi-Fi chip that causes remote connectivity issues. This does not affect the thermostat’s ability to control the customer’s heating and cooling system in the home, but does impact the user’s ability to manage the thermostat remotely,” a Google spokesperson tells The Verge. “If a user sees this error and it can’t be resolved through troubleshooting, they are prompted to contact customer support for assistance and will be issued a replacement device.”
I've spoken to google customer support via chat and phone, and I've been told they cannot replace the unit because it's out of warranty. Does google not understand a thermostat is an important unit that controls the temperature of a home, and any defect can be a serious health concern, even life threatening...and all they offer is one year warranty, then sorry "go buy a new one"???
Unfortunately I can't even use the unit since it doesn't properly display the current temperature so the heat won't go on or off. Does anyone have a solution or same issue?
