No internet = No Service

Guys,

this seems to be the current trend.  I hate it!

Once upon a PRE-GOOGLE OWNED time, if I lost internet connection (isp maintenance or storms, etc) I could still connect my iOS device with the nest app installed, still connect to my internal home wifi network (the same one as where my nest products are all on as well as my wired LAN port connections are made on) and I could launch the app using the local & cached nest login credentials I suppose and get to all my devices in the nest app including my nest thermostat.  Of course my cameras would not be storing data in the cloud Nest Aware service but, it was all online locally on my network and was THEREFORE STILL USEABLE!

Now it’s all USELESS!  With all the above true now.. no internet but, connected to my local network your “google branded” nest services:

1) do not allow login locally to app

2) if using cellular on isp … obviously can get to cloud / login but, cannot see my network / devices in app because my isp route back to my router / network is DOWN (see outage scenario above)

so a simple task of opening the app to change the thermostat temperature in my own home using my own network using my own iOS device …. CANNOT BE DONE!

UNACCEPTABLE!

Stop developing products (code really) that REQUIRES internet connection when the feature of function DOESNT NEED ONE TO WORK LOCALLY OR EVER!  It’s stupid and a disservice / gonna bite us all one day if/when an isp goes down for days or weeks … my most recent one is now.. was suppose to be 4 hrs … now it’s going to be 11hrs..  our power grid is not going to get any better and isps rely heavily on it.

if google really is all into reliability & sustainability… we’ll start with your own products / service ..  no internet should equal no service at all!

fix it!
