Noob Question: Installation

Removed my old thermostat (heat only location) with W, C and R wires. Set up the new Nest (base), wires are snug, power back on, At first it said no C wire detected so I fixed that. Power back on, open app to install and nothing. Searches and searches and then nothing. Do I assume operator error? I'm a bright guy, have done this before with my existing Honeywell ones. Before I go and try the other location (both heat and A/C) what do you all think? Just not compatible? We have hot water baseboard - I guess these are heat pumps and that's why?

@jsmarcus2010 , if you have no Y or O/B wire the Nest thermostat does not assume there is a heat pump. Since you wires are R, W, and C. The Nest will consider a forced air heating system.  You need define the type of heat. As long as you have R and C the Nest thermostat will charge its internal battery.

Nope, only the 3 wires to this existing thermostat - I'm not even getting to the point where I can program the thermostat, the app wont go that far.
