On/Off/Mid Peak Hours & Nest incorporating these rate differences

Will Nest thermostats start to incorporate the user's local on/off (& mid) peak rates in to its learning and scheduling functionality?

I've noticed recently after removing schedules from Nest as well as precooling/scheduling and running automations through Google Home Assistant, that 30 minutes prior to my meter switching to Off Peak Hours at 00:30am, that Nest is highjacking my temp settings and turning AC on and calling it "Peak Time until ##:## time" under the Renew program.

I believe similar is happening between 00:30am and 08:00am that Nest is adjusting my temperature, turning off the AC that is running during Off-Peak hours to pre-cool my house for the day, and when I wake up, my house is not as cold as I had planned it to be & the temperature settings were adjusted by Nest when I look at History the following day!

I know there are several resources which calculate carbon intensity for the local power grid where Nest Renew can get data to make recommendations, but if it is adjusting my temperatures due to "Peak Time" per Nest determination, that is counter to reducing the user's costs through pre-cooling and running their AC's during cheaper Off-Peak times.

Not looking for Nest to get into TOU - Time of Use variable/dynamic rates, but concerned Nest is setting up its own "Peak Time" determinations/metrics that are not aligned/consistent with most utilities/customers meters that have at least On-Peak/Off-Peak pricing at this point in time.Shifting AC use to off peak hours & pre-cooling a houseShifting AC use to off peak hours & pre-cooling a house

Hi HansWT,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. We know where you're coming from and this is not the experience we want you to have. We would recommend you to check your Energy Shift settings. Energy Shift can work with your compatible Nest thermostat to help you automatically prioritize usage of cleaner or less expensive energy, and tune up your Nest Thermostat schedule to run efficiently in both summer and winter. You always remain in control and can change the temperature on your Nest thermostat at any time. You can enter your rate code in the Nest Renew portal and Energy Shift can work with your compatible Nest thermostat to help you automatically prioritize the usage of less expensive energy. The feature works by helping you automatically make small adjustments to your Nest Thermostat temperature set points.

You remain in control and can change your Nest Thermostat temperature anytime and also disable this feature by going to the Nest Renew portal> Settings> Energy Shift settings> Turn Prioritize cheaper energy off.

Depending on the time of day, your current set point, weather or other relevant factors Energy Shift may or may not result in shifted or reduced usage of electricity from your heating and cooling system.

Hit this link for more information and let us know how it goes.

Emerson
