I recently had an annual revision of my boiler performed, and was advised that my Google Nest was wired wrong. Apparently, it is wired to OpenTherm despite the boiler not being OpenTherm, and this is dangerous. However, this technician was not familiar with Nest and tried rewiring to 1&2/ 2&3, but this failed. So I am not sure whether to trust the technicians who installed the Nest or the annual revision guy.
If a non-OT boiler is wired to Nest via OT, how dangerous is it?

Hi @DM92
The Nest Learning Thermostat (third generation) does support OpenTherm according to the Google support pages (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9259109). 🙂
Currently, my third-generation is connected by using OpenTherm.
Do you have a third-generation learning thermostat?
If you don't know here is a LINK on how to check which version you own.

Yes the thermostat is compatible with OT. As I mentioned, the issue is with compatibility with the boiler, which is apparently not OT compatible. What would be the danger of wiring via OT if the boiler is not suited?
One technician installed via OT, and the other said this is wrong and dangerous because the boiler is not OT. I am trying to figure out who is correct.

Hey there,
@RXShorty, thanks for the help.
@DM92, I understand that this may be confusing as two technicians have two opposing advice. I suggest contact a pro installer to discuss your options.
Best,
Mel

Hi Edward. Yes I am still wondering if wiring a non-OT compatible boiler to Nest over the OT wiring is dangerous.

Hi DM92,
Thanks for the response. I agree with Mel's response. I would suggest reaching out to our Nest Pro technicians so they could take a closer look at your system and advise you about installing a non-OT boiler. You can click on this link to learn more about our Nest Pro services.
