Called over to see some freinds of mine today.
Their son works for Google here in the UK in some high up job.
The wife stated that they could not get the Nest Thermostat to connect to the Heat Link.
I offered to have a look.
What a palaver.
The app says, you have to use the Nest app first, the Nest app just hung on the second step, presenting nowhere for me to enter the last 4 digits of the ID.
I eventually got the thermostat 3rd gen Leraning E, to connect to the Heat Link, after multiple factory resets of the Heat Link.
There appears to be no way of stopping the thermostat trying to connect, when trying to start again. It takes ages shutting down, unless tou try and power it down manually.
Battery last all of 10 minutes.
I thought my minis were bad, but this thermostat trumps them by a factor of 5 at least. 😞

Hi there! Sorry to hear that, but now worries, I'll do my best to assist. Do you still have issues with the battery? If so, you and try charging the display off the base for 90 minutes, using a USB cable. As per the issue mentioned above, do you see any kind of code/message on the display?

No need for an assist thank you.
I am now home and unlikely to be over there for quite some time.
I advised them to keep it plugged into the mains.
Fortunately it does not lose it settings, but does shutdown if left unplugged for more than about 10 minutes.
There was a H71 error on the display, which I understand is 'cannot connect to Heat Link'
I already knew that. 🙂
I told them to forget about controlling via the app or Google home.

Understood. If you want, I can send you a form via email to complete it with the details I need and once you're over there to try some troubleshooting steps.

No thank you, no need. They live the other side of the city and I rarely get over there.
I just happened to be over that side this week. First time in a long while.
They are not technically aware, so passing on the form to them would not be worth your effort.
Suffice to say, the Nest app did not work, and without that, it cannot be added to the Home assistant, so manual setting is required. they will have to live with that limitation for now.
You can lock this thread as well now please.
