Now Google has killed off countless Nest Thermostats (for no good reason and when supporting it with basic functionality would have been trivial) it is a big black square OFFLINE in my Google Home overview. There is no way to remove it manually, so it now sits there as a constant reminder of the inherent untrustworthiness of all (but certainly Google's) smart devices.
How do I remove this thing from my smart home dashboard? Will it be automatically removed? The amount of people who are going to investigate wifi issues when it's planned obsolescence is going to be wild.
So, thanks for the middle finger, Googz. I just want to see that tile gone now.

Hi @LRS,
Thank you very much for contacting this community! I understand the issue you've been having with this Nest Thermostat in the Google Home app – you've tried many ways to remove it, but it still won't delete and only appears as "Offline." I know this can be frustrating, but to solve it, I'd like to provide you with the following steps:
Use the Google Home App for the Nest Thermostat and Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen):
Open the Google Home app.
Tap Home and then All devices > touch and hold your device's tile.
Tap Settings settings icon > Remove device > Remove.
Sign in to the Nest app
Use the Nest App for Nest Learning Thermostat (1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen) and Nest Thermostat E:
Tap on the home that has the device you want to remove.
If you have multiple homes: Tap Menu > select the home you want to manage.
Tap Settings > the device you want to remove.
Choose Remove [product name].
Scroll down and select Remove [product name].
You'll be asked to confirm your choice.
Please keep me posted.
Best regards,
Eduardo

You have a very good and strong valid point here, excellent work bringing it to the attention for the Mods on here to look into for you!!
Google, you have clearly stated the 1st/2nd Gen thermostats will work as a normal thermostat after WiFi support stops. However, you failed to mention that after switch of, users would have to look at a fully functional working display [in YOUR words] that would show an error symbol!!
Why have you allowed this?
Mods, can you please look into this, and come back with a sensible excuse, why Google have allowed such an awful blunder?

This flatly contradicts what Google Nest itself said it was going to do:
"Starting from 25 October 2025, your device will be unpaired and removed from your Nest app or Home app."
