I had my thermostat 3rd gen for 4 years and it started losing wifi periodically. I charged it occasionally until I decided to change battery. During that process and because battery was glued to main board one of the connectors broke, so I decided it is time for new thermostat. I bought it used, battery must be going bad after 4+ years.
I kept the same base plate. Attaching new display did absolutely nothing. After 1 hour USB charging connecting display did almost nothing. I see google icon then message to detach and attach display again.
My system was working on 4 wires - Y1, W1, Rh, G. Blue wire was there but not used.
I swapped base plate, tried to connect blue - always with the same result as above. Any help?

@bilihor , when you say you tried to connect the blue wire? Is that blue wire connected or the common side of the transformer in your air handler? You might connected the blue wire to C on the wall plate, but is it connected to the common on the other end?

It was not connected, I tried later with multimeter.

Gen 3 Learning Nest will be returned. I got another one (found non-learning one 15 miles from my home in stock on Sunday morning) and 5 minutes later cool air started flowing in

My 3rd Gen Nest gave me only 2.5 years of battery life and now it is out of warranty and they say I need to replace the whole thing. I think one should expect to get more than 2.5 years out of a thermostat. What a joke.
