I am replacing our original Nest Thermostat from 2012 with a new version 3 so I can add sensors to different parts to my home. Are there any steps or recommendations on making the switch? I know the data will not transfer unfortunately but do I simply wipe out the old nest and delete from my account then just add the new replacement unit?
Thanks in advance!

Exactly right but I'll include the detailed steps below. Before you reset your old thermostat, you'll probably want to write down the wiring information so you can easily enter it again. On your thermostat, go to the Settings cog > Equipment. You may want to do this for other settings such as system heating type and safety temperature as well.
Once reset, switch off the power to your system and remove the thermostat from the wall.
Enjoy your new thermostat!

Ended up having a bad unit with a broken WiFi antenna. Swapped it out at Home Depot and install went flawlessly. Thanks for the steps.
