Second Nest thermostat

Mc2533

Hi all, does anyone have a fix for this, I can add both thermostats to the nest app but Google home will only add one, they both work via the app and the one I can add works on Google home app but every time I try add the bedroom one nothing happens, this means I can’t voice control it as Alexa won’t discover it.

I’ve reset it numerous times, reset both and started again and they both add to the Nest app easy, when I scan the QR code on the second one it recognises it but not a thing happens, just goes to Google home app home page

Hi Mc2533,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with adding your second Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What message are you getting when you try to add it?
  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • Can you control it stand alone?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward,

Both are gen 3 learning. I don’t get any messages at all, Google home simply doesn’t find the second one.
Both added straight away on the nest app but the Google home app will only find the one, I’ve reset both, started again several times but it will only ever add the one via Google home, as soon as I scan the bar code in add new device I get a great tick then nothing, it just goes back to the Google app home page

Just to add on to that yes, I can control it stand-alone manually or via the Nest app

Hi Mc2533,

Thanks for the response. Just to verify, are both Nest devices linked to the same home structure on the Nest App? Also, what type of Nest Thermostat do you have?

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Mc2533,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community. Could you try doing a complete reset and use only the Google Home app for the setup.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan, I’ve tried that several times too, I’ve deleted both thermostats from Nest, logged out then tried to add them just using Google Home app, it still only connects the Hallway one, however…. It did connect the Bedroom one once but then wouldn’t find the bloody hallway one

Hi Mc2533,

Thanks for the reply and we're sorry for the delay.

It's possible that these thermostats are having some trouble with the wireless connection to the router. Could you do a complete reset on both thermostat, but this time, try to uninstall the Nest app from your phone. You'll need to use and try the setup using the Google Home app alone. Also, create a home (structure) where you can put both devices.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan, already tried that too, logged out of nest and uninstalled the app and used just Google, still didn’t work, rebooted the router etc etc I’ve tried everything I can think of

This looks like it's a bug in the Google Nest product. I have the identical problem. Google Home can only find one Nest thermostat even though the Nest app has both products connected and working fine. As a consequence of Google Home not being able to accommodate both devices, the Alexa service cannot access the second thermostat either. What a total crock!
