Should Nest 2nd Generation Thermostat work with worcester Bosch 1000 boiler?

I have just had a new Worcester Bosch 1000 combi boiler installed and I cannot get the 2nd Generation Thermostat to switch on the heating. It is connected to the internet and says it is heating but does not actually turn the boiler on.

Can anyone help please?

Are you in the UK? Who has connected the new boiler to the Nest?

Yes in the uk and it was the heating engineer who did the connection.

It has connected to the internet and the thermostat has connected to the heat link but it does not appear to connect to the boiler. The heating engineer believes that the boiler and nest are not compatible

The internet connection is nothing to do with the thermostat to boiler connections, so you can forget about those for now. That just allows use remote. The display connected to the heat l;ink is good, as that's really just your switching of your boiler. That means you are able to switch from your display to the heat link then to your boiler.

I assume in your boiler you have terminals labelled something like - E L N - L N in a white block and L R - L R - F S - F R in a yellow block. Does that make sense and look like your boiler terminal connections?

To be honest I really don't know. I can look and see if I can get to them and take a look, I'll get back to you, thanks for your help

I had someone look into the boiler and the terminals were as you said. They also worked on the heat link and it appears that the heat link is not sending any current to the boiler (?). They think the best link is defective.

You say the terminations are as I mentioned, then the Nest will work. Regarding testing the Heat Link, well that’s a 2 second job with just a simple neon screwdriver, or any form of simple tester.  I would think if the Nest was working correctly before the new boiler fitted, I can’t see any reason why it shouldn’t now. Assuming the fitter did not connect incorrectly. Like I say, a simple neon screwdriver can prove the Heat Link is switching.

Sorry I should have made it clear that the heat link was tested and it is not sending the current to the boiler.

I am now trying to find a replacement heat link or to have it repaired if possible. If not, it looks like I will have to buy a new one.

Once again, I appreciate your help.

Oh I see, in that case a new Heat Link it could be. A little tip, a 3rd generation H/L will work with your 2nd gen display, you will have to pair obviously with your display, but that will be with any H/L even a 2nd gen one if purchased as a replacement.

Where are you located?

Thank you so much for that tip, it is proving difficult to source a 2 nd generation heat link so that looks the way to go.

I am in the UK.

Yes you wouldn't waste your time with a 2nd gen anymore. The bonus also the 3rd has a hot water contacts. Not usable with a 2nd gen, but you could upgrade to a 3rd gen display and wall plate, if you wanted to in the future.
