Strainded wire

I have stranded thermostat wire going to my current thermostat can i splice with solid wire in the electrical box then hook the solid wire to the nest?

Is your original thermostat powered by line voltage and not 24Vac?

Stranded wires usually mean Line voltage is on them.

Post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring.
