Switching from humidifier to dehumidifier

deelee
Community Member

My HVAC system has both a humidifier and a dehumidifier. How do I switch the nest settings so that the dehumidifier will show up under the equipment? Currently it only shows the humidifier and the humidity level is 59%. I don’t want to use the cool to dry setting. I want to use the actual dehumidifier that is part of my system.

Hi deelee,

Thanks for reaching out! I appreciate you for sharing that. Let's check this out — may I know what's the model of your Nest Thermostat?

Looking forward for your response.

Thanks,

JT

Still need help. Do you want to see an uploaded photo of the current wiring?

Hey there deelee,

If you could send us a picture of your current wiring, that would be helpful! Usually, the Humidifier and Dehumidifier would be connected to the universal terminal, the * terminal. However, with the thermostat only having 1 universal terminal, it would be helpful to see your wiring.

We look forward to your response on this!

Best regards,

Jeran

I’m not sure how to send you a photo.

Hiya deelee,

If you have a picture in your files, if you select the second-to last-option on the Google Nest Community text area options, the one that looks like a hand-held camera, it should let you upload a photo from there!

Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help out!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there deelee,

No problem at all! Out of curiosity, does that orange wire control both the Humidifier and the Dehumidifier, or is the orange wire one of them, and the loose dark wire the other?

I hope that makes sense!

Best regards,

Jeran

  • Hi again Jeran,

that was my question for you…….

Hiya deelee,

I see, do you know what kind of HVAC system that you have, such as the make and model? Traditionally, the Orange wire would be for a reversing valve for a Heat Pump system to switch from Heating to Cooling, and vice versa. If you're using a conventional HVAC system, I'm not sure what the Orange wire is for. The loose wire I'm also not able to recognize. If you have the chance, it may be best to reach out to your HVAC manufacturer to ask about those two wires, as they would know more.

I hope that helps, let me know if you had any other questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Jeran

I did see it, and responded that it wasn’t the answer that I had hoped the Neat community would provide. The HVAC company says that it depends on the nest configuration.

Hey deelee,

I am sorry to hear you are still having trouble. Do you mind me asking, what is the device saying the orange wire is? There is a chance it may be detecting the wrong equipment. Are you seeing any error messages? Here is an article that could be of help. Please let me know, as I want to ensure you are good to go from here.

Best regards,

Jake
