Temperature Sensor won’t connect to Nest

We’ve had a temperature sensor for 1.5 years and it would no longer connect. We tried resetting it using the troubleshooting steps and nothing worked. I purchased a new one. Opened it up today to set it up, it won’t connect. We followed all the troubleshooting steps again. I assume something is wrong with the Nest. How do we get the temperature sensor to connect?! Our upstairs needs this sensor as it’s warmer and that’s where our children’s rooms are.

Hi JordanBors,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand it's frustrating when the temperature sensor isn't working properly. Don't worry, let's try a full reset and re-add the sensor to your Nest app:

Full Reset: Remove the battery from the sensor for 5 minutes, then put it back in.

Re-add Sensor to App:

  • Open the Nest app and tap the Settings icon on the home screen.
  • Select Add Product.
  • Scan the QR code located on the Nest Temperature Sensor's battery pull tab.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to choose a location, name the sensor, and complete the setup.

If you still see a "fail to connect" message:

You can find more troubleshooting steps in our article "Troubleshoot issues with the Nest Temperature Sensor".

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you're still having trouble after trying these steps.

Best regards,

Jenny
