The Nest App needs to go...

The Nest Learning Thermostat is great, I've had a pair installed for the past ~5 years and the hardware/day-to-day experience is almost perfect. The "Nest" app on the other hand hasn't really changed in that time, it was bad at the time, and the fact that it is still this fragmented from the rest of the ecosystem is troubling as a user. The Google Home app is so much better in every way that I've experienced and the flow between the two apps is clunky at best.

The learning functionality, Farsight, and the look/feel are well worth the price of the upgrade for me from the new base version, but the fact that the "Upgrade" version is locked into the Nest app is ridiculous.

I need to replace two more thermostats in other locations soon, and I have Nest Learning models sitting in their boxes ready to go on the walls, but if they are going to be forever locked into the Nest app I don't want them. Are we ever going to see a day where the "Learning" thermostats are actually folded into the modern ecosystem or should I buy something else?
