Hello,
I've been using my Nest without issue for 3 years. Now it shuts down without reason. If I pull it off and charge it, it will work for a few hours. The battery reads 3.7 Volts after charging. Then it shuts off. It's consistently connected to WiFi, and the wiring hasn't changed.
The current setup is a red wire inserted to Rh and a white wire inserted to W1. When I charge it, it works and the heater turns on for a few hours, then the nest dies and it goes out. Again, I've been able to use the nest for years without a C Wire (which is the reason I bought the learning thermostat).
Does the battery need to be replaced at some point? What's going on?
Thanks.

Hi CaveatEmptor1,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We're sorry for any trouble this may have caused you. There are only two reasons for the Nest Thermostat to drain its battery. One is power, if the power is not sufficient, it will drain the battery. Second is the network if the Nest Thermostat is trying to connect with your network and it is either far from the device or the device is having a hard time maintaining the connection due to some network security settings.
Let's isolate the case and check which one causes your Nest Thermostat battery to drain. Disconnect the Nest Thermostat from your network after charging it up to 3.7 volts, and monitor the case.
I look forward to your response.
Best,
Renz
