Thermostat configuraton

Hello.  i cant find a conversation about my existing configuration and need some help before i purchase.  I ran the compatibility checker, but it also doesnt match my config.

i have 1 thermostat upstairs and another one downstairs.  I have a dual zone system (with dampers) and a whole home humidifier.

the upstairs has the humidifier settings - otherwise its a normal programmable thermostat.  the one downstairs just has the programmable features.

when i ran the compatibility checker on the downstairs, i have W2, RC jumpered to R, O/B, Y and G - All seems good.  However, when i checked the main, it only has 3 wires - labeled 1, 2 and 3.   1 is red, 2 is white, 3 is blue.

My downstairs thermostat isnt always working (screen goes blank) so id like to replace the system with a smart one.  I got a $1000 quote for an HVAC system to replace the thermostats with smart ones.  im completely capable of installing, but am not sure the Nest will support this configuration.    any advice?

Hello chrislloyd915,

It sounds like you have a complex HVAC setup with a dual-zone system and a whole home humidifier. I understand your concern about compatibility with Nest Thermostats, especially given the unique wiring in your downstairs thermostat.

For the downstairs thermostat, it seems like you have a standard setup with W2, RC jumpered to R, O/B, Y, and G, which should work well with Nest Thermostats. However, the main thermostat, with only three wires labeled 1, 2, and 3, might pose a challenge. To address this, you may need to identify what each wire corresponds to. Typically, R (red) is power, W (white) is heating, and G (green) is the fan. If you can determine the functions of each wire, it will be easier to assess compatibility.

If you're unsure, I suggest consulting with a professional HVAC technician. They can provide guidance on how to integrate Nest Thermostats into your specific system.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Best regards,
Mark
