Thermostat is trash

Up until July I had two 3rd Gen therms for up and downstairs that lasted a long time. The upstairs failed, I ran out to Home Depot bought a replacement wired it and running (in July). I noticed right away that WiFi wasn’t working. The unit also intermittently loses power. As of today, it now won’t hold power at all while docked in place. I call support and they’re completely unhelpful. They say it needs to be replaced but it will take 2-7 business days to receive it. Night time is getting into the 30’s and I have 3 young kids. This is unacceptable. I can buy one going to the Home Depot and have it hooked up within an hour but Google expects me to wait 7 business days because of their junk product.

Question, it seems to function ok as I tried to charge it manually for a few minutes. It eventually shut down since it’s not holding charge.  What can I do? How long will it hold a charge if I manually charge it for a couple hours?

Hello GooogleBlows1,

Thanks for reaching out to us! I'm sorry for the issues you've been having with your Nest Thermostat. I understand that it's not holding a charge, which affects its network connection. I know that this is a sensitive issue, as you have three young kids at home that need good ventilation. But I'd be happy to shed some light on your situation here.

Can you gather your thermostat's power readings in the Technical Info settings? If the battery level drops to 3.7V and below, pull the display and charge it for at least 1 hour before plugging it back into its base. Then, make sure that all wires are properly connected and there are no loose or exposed wires in them. Also, check your thermostat for any power-related reports that cause it to not hold its charge and please share with us your support ID number from your previous contact with us.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Mark
