Thermostat not reading the correct indoor temperature

ShannonS

My nest thermostat is showing the indoor temperature as higher than it really is and it is causing it to have my AC keep running to a much lower temperature than I actually want, because it is reading the indoor temperature as higher. So it keeps running the central air unit to try and get it to the temperature I have it set to. Is there a way to calibrate the thermostat’s indoor thermometer? My house is freezing but the nest thermostat still says it’s a temperature much higher than it actually is in the house. This is my first summer with this thermostat. I have only had it less than a year. It worked perfectly all winter long and was reading a correct indoor temperature.

Hi ShannonS,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • Is your Nest Thermostat being hit by direct sunlight?
  • Is there any heat source near the Nest Thermostat?
  • How big is the difference between the readout of the Nest thermostat and your thermometer?

You can also click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward
