Nest suddenly stopped working after 7 years. No heating. Fiddled around. Got heating. But original code seems to have disappeared.

Hello kendoska,

Thanks for letting us know about your Nest Thermostat that stopped working with your heating system after many years. I'd love to know more about this.
.
These questions might be too much, but they would help us isolate the issue:

  • Does the thermostat screen indicate that it’s actively calling for heating?
  • Which Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • What type of furnace do you have? (gas, electric, etc.)
  • When did the heating last work?
  • Did you turn off the power to the HVAC system?
    • Did you recently turn off any breakers?
    • Have you recently experienced a brownout or blackout?
    • Is there a light switch near the heater that controls an outlet?
  • Do the LED lights blink on the HVAC control board?
  • When was the last time you changed the furnace's air filter?
    • Note: A clogged air filter can cause an HVAC system to not activate.
  • Have you experienced extremely cold weather lately?
  • Could you provide a rundown of all the steps you've tried?
  • Gather the power readings in your thermostat's Technical Info settings or in the Equipment settings, depending on the Nest Thermostat version you have.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,
Mark
