Thermostat power issue

Lodgegm
Community Member

So both my thermostats threw error codes for power on Friday.  Did anyone else have this issue? I think they pushed an update to make us buy power supply.  Let me know!  If they do d can you say class action.  Oh btw put new batteries in two different sets still threw same codes!

Is this the Nest with the touch bar on side or the Learning nest you rotate the dial?

Do you have a C wire connected?

Did you go to Settings  Equipment Power Status and check if Vin is 24-30V

Do not have c wire.  Have had these since 2020 one in 2021 both went nuts on Friday.  Put in new batteries and still are acting up. Why after two years would they need c wire?

Again two years no issue just all of a sudden sane day

Furthermore no where when buying does it say you need c wire for proper operation!  Google monetizing their mistake

It does say you need C wire for systems that only have 2 wires. How many wires are connected to the base?

What kind of system is this? Heat only or Heat and AC?

Forced air or Boiler with radiators?

Four wires heat ac and one electric one gas have been fine no issues till Friday and both went into error codes

These are two separate units.  Why would they both throw same code

Yes very strange not sure what is going on unless a wire is loose in the screw on the furnace end or you had a power surge or brownout.

I would still check on the Nest the power status what is it showing for Vin? That is the power coming from the furnace transformer R wire not the battery in the Nest.

If that Vin is very low it will cause issues and maybe the transformer is going bad.

After two years why would batteries be an issue?  And need c wire?

Are they separate heating systems or both Nests are zones for the same system?

What error code are you getting?

This guide under the section Systems that are Nest Compatible shows the type of system that the Nest requires a C wire.

Do you have the Nest Learning or the Nest with side touch bar?

Check the power status on Regular Nest go to

Settings  Equipment Power Status

Check if Vin is 24-30V and reply with what all the readings are showing.

That's not the Power test of the transformer power on the R wire.

Go to the nest and tap it go to

Settings,  Equipment, Power Status

Check if Vin is 24v or more

and reply with what all the readings are showing.

Battery voltage is very low should be around 3.3 - 3.6

The Vin looks good so should be charging battery.

Try brand new good quality alkaline batteries see what happens.

Hello, Friday at 2am I also got an error code. My unit was working perfectly for a year until Friday after that error code. Now, the unit turns on automatically and doesn’t recognize the room temp. I lower it, but turns the boiler again. It’s not working properly after that Error message came up on my screen. My unit was installed a year ago by a licensed electrician and it worked until Friday.

something happened Friday to these units.
