Thermostat question

My temperature is set to 75. Current home temp is 78. Air conditioner is not running. I walk in front of nest thermostat and air conditioner starts running. How and why does this happen?  Why does it not start on its own?

In the nest app there is a home assist and there’s an option to have the thermostat detect if people are home. Maybe try turning that off.
