Thermostat running high

I've been using this thermostat for over a year now with no issues. When I got home today, it has switched to comfort mode from eco mode, but it was reading the house temperature as 90°. The tabletop sensor I have reads the house is 66 °. When I checked the thermostat, it was trying to cool the house down to 75 ° and it would run the air conditioning until it registered that the house was 1° cooler and then reset. Then the timer would start counting down and it would do it again, and again, and again. It's been doing this for well over an hour now and even trying to restart the thermostat isn't helping. Right now. It reads the temperature is 80° versus the 62° that it actually is.

Some updates. It is currently 58 degrees in the house. Replaced the batteries. They were extremely hot. I let the unit sit on the table to cool off thinking it was the batteries but it didn't help. Put it outside for a few to bring it down in the winter cold, then re installed. It said two hours to heat up to 72. Instead, the heat ran for less than 5 minutes. Now the thermostat reads the house is 78 degrees and rising and I'm concerned about my pipes freezing because the nest unit is overheating even with new batteries and won't turn the heat on.

HI Oniichanaino,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of batteries are you using?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward
