Thermostat wiring question

cnest
Community Member

I have HEAT ONLY on a 5-wire thermostat. Is this Nest compatible? Does it require a c-wire?

I have a Green, White, Blue, Yellow, and Red wire.... and the R and Rc are jumped to each other.

This means all six terminals on my thermostat are connected to something.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, it is compatible.

Just match the top labels and you should be good to go.

You might want to check the furnace side and see what wires are connected.

Do I put in the jumper from R to Rc ?

My Nest is complaining it can't charge the batteries.

Hello @cnest

Thank you for reaching out to our Nest Community. Don't worry, I'd be happy to help you with your Nest Thermostat's wiring.

Nest thermostat connectors are built so that only one wire can be inserted into each connector. Putting more than one wire into a Nest thermostat connector can damage your system and your thermostat.

Instead of using jumper wires, Nest Learning Thermostats use an internal jumper between the Rh and Rc connectors. A Nest Learning Thermostat will automatically use this internal jumper if your system needs it.

So to answer your question this bridge is not necessary in your Nest Thermostat.

Feel free to keep us posting. I'm happy to help you.

Best regards.

Douglas.
