We had a Nest E which worked fine in our house. We no longer needed it so I gave it to my parents. My dad is having trouble getting it to work.
System is oil furnace with baseboard radiators. No AC. We connected the 3 wires - we aren’t entirely sure we did it right - and the radiators made a noise like they were warming up when the wires were connected and the system turned on. A red light then blinked on the screen - it needed charging. After a few hours, The light blinked green. Dad restarted it and it asked him to set the date and time, then the screen said “off.” He restarted it again and it still says “off.”
we aren’t sure what is going on. Could this be a wiring issue?

Hi HudsonHome,
Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share a photo of your current thermostat's wiring and HVAC's system control board? What is your HVAC's make and model? Also, you could try our compatibility checker to see if your current system is compatible with the Nest Thermostat.
Thanks,
Mel

Thanks! An HVAC person came to the house for other reasons and was able to get it up and running. I'm not sure what the solution was, but the issue is now resolved. Thanks!
