Two Thermostats - Heat and AC

Hi!

I have two thermostats (one for heat and one for AC) that I would like to switch to Google Nests. Neither have a c wire. I got one c adapter but: a) do i need two since it is two separate thermostats b) if not, where do i hook up the one c adapter? My heating unit is in my basement and my AC is in my attic and unit is outside.

Thanks in advance!

Hello jonathansturm88,

It sounds like you're ready to upgrade your thermostats to Google Nests, which is a great choice for smart home temperature control. I'd love to help!

With your question about the C-wire adapter, typically, you would need one adapter per thermostat. Since you have two separate thermostats for heat and AC, it's likely you'll need two adapters. As for where to hook up the adapters, it depends on your setup. Since your heating unit is in the basement and your AC is in the attic with the unit outside, you may need to install the adapters at those respective locations. The C-wire adapter provides a constant source of power for your smart thermostat, so it needs to be connected to a power source in your HVAC system.

For more specific guidance, it might be helpful to review the Nest Power Connector article for the installation guide. If you have any more questions along the way, feel free to ask.

Best regards,
Mark
