UK Nest Thermostat - Control Oil Boiler Central Heating & Electric Immersion Hot Water Heater?

Current setup -

Heating: Oil fired boiler for central heating, with a separate heating pump. (plugged into 3 pin mains)
Hot Water: Electric immersion heater, controlled manually by a regular switch. No timer etc

Would like a Google Nest Smart Heating Control – assuming it will control the 3 devices I need it to:

a. Oil fired boiler, plugged into a 3 pin plug

b. Associated central heating pump, plugged into a 3 pin plug (obviously they both need to switch on and off at the same time)

c. Electric powered hot water – from an immersion heater. Currently manually operated by a switch next to the tank

~Does anyone know if a single Nest can control these so I can set timers/schedules for heating and then separate timers/schedules for the hot water?

There's no thermostat linked to the heating system, only the radiator controls. I'm fine with this, would just like the option to control the heating and hot water via timers from my phone/tablet etc.

As far as I am aware the Oil boiler does not heat the hot water (taps) at all, only the manual switch on the electric immersion heater.

I currently have to rely on a rather  rubbish hard to program central heating timer, which only controls the oil boiler & not the heating pump. I dont like to leave the heating pump running 24 hours a day as its a waste of energy and it's rather noisy overnight.

For the hot water, I have to manually flick the switch and remember to switch it off later.

Thanks in advance

Hi. Yes a Google Nest 3rd generation thermostat should be able to control both heating and hot water as the Heat Link that comes with it is designed to connect to a system with a separate hot water tank. You can read more about compatibility with different systems here: https://bit.ly/3pgxJFe .

You will be able to schedule both hot water and heating.

Usually we would expect the hot water tank to also have a control valve, and not just a switch in order to work as expected. You can have a look here at some installation examples for systems with a separate hot water tank so you can get an idea: https://bit.ly/3nt2N4t .

You many require the assistance of an installer or Nest Pro if you don't have a separate hot water tank, to make sure it is installed and working correctly.

Hi, I wanted to check in.

Anything else I can assist with?

Hi,

I'm on the same situation, Google nest currently controls the gas boiler (hot water and heating) and I would like to start using the nest to control the hot water, but via a immersion heating element. Do I need to add another heat link to directly control the immersion element?
