Undetected wires for Nest, but everything works OK. Getting N253 code.

Installed Nest.  Everything works fine, but it says wires are undetected (with an N253 code).  I went back and cut off old ends of wires and stripped some fresh/straight wire (as suggested) and rewired, but same problem.  Again,  everything works fine, but it claims that all 4 wires that I used (Yellow, Green, Red, and White) are all "undetected."  Any ideas?  Inclined to do nothing more, as everything works OK.

Hello MBPW,

Thank you for sharing your Nest Thermostat installation experience. We appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting the issue you've encountered with the undetected wires, as indicated by the N253 code.

It's great to hear that, despite the message report, everything seems to be functioning correctly. It appears that the Nest system is providing false detection of undetected wires. To further assist you, I suggest the following steps:

  1. Confirm that each wire is securely connected to the corresponding terminal on the Nest base.
  2. Make sure your Nest Thermostat's software is up-to-date. Check for available updates in the Nest app, or visit the Nest website for instructions on updating the software.
  3. Update the wiring in the Google Home app settings. Select your thermostat > Settings > Thermostat.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
