Using Nest 3rd Gen Thermostat as a 2-wire 24v manual thermostat only

I want to use a Google Nest as a Manual thermostat in a 2-wire only configuration. The goal is the stop Wi-Fi power use BUT have enough battery to talk to ONE remote sensor.  The second goal is to ensure that it turns off at night via scheduling.

The Worry: The battery will not has sufficient power on a 2-wire setup.

Scenario: During the day, ONLY turn heat on/off via the rotating dial. At 10pm, the Nest turns off the electric heat at a prescribed time. Any presences awareness regarding at-home-or-not would be nice, but not essential.

Question: Will disabling Wi-Fi connectivity provide a longer battery life ... and can the remote sensor be in communiation w/o Wi-Fi?

Hi RandyRobinsNest,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share a photo of your current thermostat's wiring and HVAC's system control board? What is your HVAC's make and model? Also, you could try our compatibility checker to see if your current system is compatible with the Nest Thermostat.

Thanks,
Mel
