We need schedules with 5 minute increments not 30 minutes

Does anyone know when Nest/Google are going to amend the Schedules so that they can be set in 5 minutes increments or, as a bare minimum, 15 minutes?

The current 30 minute minimum length is really poor given that you need to have won the lottery to be able to afford to heat water for any length of time with gas in the UK now.

Surely it can be that hard to do for the tech types in Nest/Google?

My Nest does 15 min increments.

I wonder if they could push out a software update that would allow them all to do it?

My 2nd Gen Nest has had it since new.

This is really odd - the software is 5.9.5-2.  It says it’s up to date.  The only schedule option I have on the app is in 30 minute increments (also with the “boost” option)  - really pleased for those of you who don’t have the issue but does anyone know if I can change the settings anywhere?  Many thanks in advance.

Mine is older than yours.

I’m being victimised!

I have the exact same issue - I can only set it to come on the hour or half hour. Utterly ridiculous that I have to have hot water on in half hour increments and at times that don't necessarily suit.

Hi there @KevinG1969,

Thanks for reaching out. The increments are designed this way so it doesn't damage your heating system from short term on and off. You can still leave a feedback about that here.

If that were the case the system should have a minimum on time of half hour and above that allow the user whatever time span they choose, not these nonsense half hour increments.

We're sorry. This is how the app has been designed to protect your heating system from short term on/off. The only thing we can do is to point out to the feedback as the app can't be modified for single users.

It’s not for a single user is it …. As you can see from the number of people that have commented.

Modern boilers don’t break if a timer works in periods of less than 30 minutes. In the current environment where we need to save fuel due to environmental and cost considerations the refusal by Google/Nest to push out an update to all of the thermostats is ridiculous. If I was buying something now, it wouldn’t be Nest and I won’t ever recommend it to anyone I know.

Genuinely ridiculous.

I'm sorry for the confusion or expression. What I meant in there is that the only way a change may be possible is by having as much feedback as possible through the link.

Couldn't agree more. Had my boiler serviced yesterday and the chap that did it (and installs Nest) was shocked at the inability to schedule energy when the user wants it.

@HampshireBlue, indeed, giving the times this can be uncomfortable. As my colleague recommended, what you can do at the moment is to leave a feedback at the link provided. Thanks for understanding.

Hi, just wanted to check in. is there anything else I can perhaps try and assist with?

Yes you can …. You could persuade the Dev Team at Google/Nest to spend an afternoon recoding the thermostats so that water heating can switch at an times other than on the hour and 1/2 hour and allow the duration of the period to be more flexible than increments of 30 minutes ….. both limitations being utterly ridiculous and completely out of step with their quoted goals of saving energy.

Our colleagues are always looking for ways to improve both our products and services and they are always looking for more feedback. Should there be any update, rest assured that we'll let everyone know on our official channels but currently I don't have any information on this. I will go ahead and close down this thread, if anything else comes up, feel free to open up a new one.
