I have a Nest, I like it. I'd like to stick with that if possible. I also need to replace my air conditioner and want to go with a central heat pump. Almost without exception, all manufacturers of all systems on the market claim to have smart devices that work only with their proprietary thermostats. Is this true or is it marketing? What systems can I actually purchase if I want to keep the Nest?
A good example is the Lennox SL35XPV. This is the current claimant for "most efficient heat pump". The marketing material says it's a 2-speed fan with a 3-setting compressor, which I understand from the Nest compatibility guide should work? But their wiring guide shows wires I+/I-/A/B, which don't appear in Nest's compatibility tool. Every manufacturer leads to a dead end like this!
Seriously: someone tell me what I can buy. Or is the answer really "Nest has been locked out of the market and no one has standard thermostat controls anymore?"
