I am getting an error code when trying to link 1 of my 2 nest thermostats to my account. I got an error code TD018 (3.3) that I am trying to troubleshoot. Within the directions to fix the error, the directions tell me to "
What is the assisting device? I am not sure where I am supposed to move the detached display.

An "Assisting Device" is another Google/Nest product like a camera or a Hub.
