Which Nest model do I have?

Why is it so difficult to determine which nest model I have?

This is a question that has endless responses and yet when I look into the device or the app I still am not able to see which model (gen 1 or 2 or 3)?

I have looked at the device itself and scrolled to the settings etc. I also have gone into the app. Same results

Can I tell by device ID or serial number?

Hi @bcolstad

You can find the generation by this chart: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have - Google Nest Help and via the app: Nest thermostat information menu - Google Nest Help

  1. Select your thermostat on the app home screen.
  2. Settings .
  3. Technical info.
  4. Refer to the numbers next to the “Display model” of your thermostat. The first digit of the number tells you what thermostat you have: xx is a 1st gen Nest Learning Thermostat. xx is a 2nd gen Nest Learning Thermostat.

Thanks Jill,

Unfortunately, this is not what I see when I follow your steps. I had followed these steps before based on the direction from other sites.

When I go into the app and get to technical info, the details that show are not what is stated on line

I see this

Model-Display-3.7

Backplate Model Backplate-5.4

Serial no.

Updated

Device ID

Software

Where would there be digits that indicate the model and what would there be if this is a 3rd gen Nest?

Hi @bcolstad

You have the model 3(.7) so you have the 3rd generation model 3 Nest learning thermostat.  I see 3.6 when I check in the app. I am assuming the .# is just an internal designation but I can find that out if you need.

Does this help at all?
