Why Isn't My Thermostat Compatible with Google Nest? I tried the online compatibility test.

Hello,

My home was built in 2006 and I'm sure the online Google Nest Compatibility test told me my system was compatible but when I followed the app and answered the questions about the wires, it told me my system is not compatible. I am so disappointed after saving up to buy the Nest.

Here is a photo of the wiring as follows:

  • White to C
  • Orange to G
  • Brown to Y
  • Black to RC
  • Red to W1
  • Blue to G2
  • Yellow to G3

@Patrick_Caezza  ... can you help, you seem to be an expert.

@BDD1 ,

The only thermostat that will support multiple fan speeds is the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation. It will support your equipment configuration.  I just verified on the Google nest compatibility checker.

@BDD1 ,

Your system has multiple speed fan that enable it to be more efficient. These multiple speed fans are found often in apartment complexes.  The fan high speed is used for cooling and medium speed is used for heating. If you choose to only use a single speed, we should wire the G wire to the Nest G terminal.

Thank you for this, @CoolingWizard.

Is there no way to get the Nest working anyway just with just one fan speed? The place I just moved out of had only one friend speed and that was fine for me. I didn't realize multiple fan speeds was an option in this new place with this system.
