Why are the thermostats so poorly supported in terms of downloading data?

It either never works, or there's just not enough data. It's my house, my device, my data. Why can't I pull down a simple temperature log? Ten days in the nest app isn't enough. Migrating to Google home is a joke...not even an option for it.

Lol...I can set a trigger "if temp falls below "x"...but I can't replace "x" with "current temperature setting" from the device.

This isn't hard you know...we don't want the moon; five pieces of data at best; the timestamp (ideally split into a separate date and time), the target temp, the actual temp and whether the heating or cooling is active.

Fairly basic for a thermostat I think we'd all agree..!

Have you tried takeout.google.com ?  You can download all your data from there

See above under "it never works". I just wait 24 hours then get an error message along the lines of "there was an error".

Helpful. Not.

I'm trying it again.

What about setting up a log using ifttt ... It should be able to record readings into a spreadsheet for you

Hmm, I could try that...though of course it means I have to have another device constantly on to hold the log...and also to learn how to get IFTTT to work, which I have spectacularly failed to do on several previous occasions!

You should be able to link the log to a Google sheets file , no need for a device.  I did it years ago but have not used ifttt for a while.

Failed at first hurdle. Nest can only "IF" on "change" triggers; temperature falls below, rises above, etc. There's no option for a regular hourly reading.

If I use date/time as my trigger, then Google Nest has no "then" options.

Let down on all sides it seems...
