Why isn’t my nest connecting with my Ideal Logik boiler?

My 3rd generation Nest thermostat was working fine up to a couple of weeks ago.  Now no matter what temperature is input on the thermostat the boiler will not switch on and consequently my radiators  stay off.   The boiler seems to be ok.  I just don’t know why they have stopped talking to each other all of a sudden when they have been fine.

Further update: just found out the heating will come on only if the hot water is on at the same time.  This has never happened before.  The 2 systems normally work independently of each other.   
can anyone assist? I do not want to be heating the hot water tank every time I need the heating on
