Wiring a nest learning thermostat

I have a single stage, 2 zone gas forced hot water boiler system. Alpine boiler 6 years old. Thermostat has a red and white wire connected to thermostat. Thermostat wiring itself has 3 wires. Red and white wire which are connected to thermostat and a blue wire that is not connected. Can I connect the nest learning thermostat with just the red and white wire only or will I have to use the blue wire as the common C wire
