Wiring compatibility with Nest?

antoboiss

Hi !

Wondering if my current wiring is compatible with Nest thermostats. There seems to be two wires going in each slot in my current thermostat (which is a Robertshaw 300-227 ). Can I replicate it on the Nest?

Thanks a lot !

Hi antoboiss,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community.

I'd like to check a couple of things here for us to further tell if it is compatible with the Nest thermostat. First, you can only connect one (1) wire from your HVAC system to the Nest thermostat. We could verify how these wires are connected to your system by looking at the main terminal. Take a photo and we'll check why there are 2 wires connected to each terminal.

I hope to hear from you very soon.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan !

Here's how the terminal looks.

Hi antoboiss,

Thanks for your reply and for including the photo of your main terminal.

Based on the photos, your current setup is compatible with Nest thermostat. We should only use the solid color wire when you set it up to the Nest thermostat following the same terminal from your old thermostat.

Also, this online compatibility checker could provide additional help in wiring.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by the solid color wires? They all seem to have two colors (orange & black, yellow & blue etc.).

Hi antoboiss,

Based on the second photo you've sent, there are 2 kinds of wire connected to each terminal. What we are going to use on the Nest thermostat should be the solid color ones.

Ryan

Oh ok I understand. Those wires however don't seem to be accessible from where my current thermostat is located so I would have to open the wall to see if they are hidden underneath.

Thanks for all the info ! Really appreciated !
