@gm7b52001 ,

An E type error implies some type of wiring or power related error.  The thermostat is simply and electrical switching device.  It takes the power arriving on the R terminal and sends the power out another terminal. It connect R to G and Y for cooling, it connects R to W for heating. In heating the furnace controls to blower, if you send power to Y, you must always include G. If your HVAC system is a Heat Pump you might need to include the OB wire.  If you connect R,G,Y and the air coming out of the vents is notably hotter, you need to include the OB wire.

So, remove the Nest display, use a metal paper clip and connect the R, G and Y together.  Turn the power to air handler back on and does your Air Conditioner come on? Your blower will be on, we are checking for cold air coming out of the vents after about 10 minutes.

Report back what happened.

@Mello ,

A high efficiency technically works like any other gas furnace, only it is more energy efficient.  It is still controlled by the W/W1 terminal of the Nest Thermostat. An E type error identifies some type of power related error. In this case the error means there is an overcurrent detected on the Y1 terminal. To prove this, swap your Y and G wires and see if the problem moves.  Keep in mind the maximum voltage cannot exceed 30VAC.  For one wire to exceed this, there typically indicates an incorrect wiring or a some type of voltage short.  Please post a picture of the old thermostat and it wiring and a picture of your Nest thermostat backplate showing the wires you have attached. Thank you.
