e72 error despite wires being clean and voltage coming through

Stef

Hi! I am in the US. A few days ago, we turned our Nest Learning Thermostat on after several months of not using it. It worked well for a couple of hours and suddenly stopped, and displayed the E72 error message. Wires are clean (see picture attached). I tested for voltage at wires (RC and G, RH and G) and power is coming through (26-27V). Does someone know what may be the problem and how to fix it?

Attached a few more pictures of our system.

Thanks for your help!
