iPhone Nest App keeps disconnecting

About a month ago, I kept getting logged out of my iPhone Nest app. It was tedious but I could sporadically log back in. I haven’t been able to log back in for the last week. I’m posting these follow-up steps in case it helps anyone.

Here’s what I did after following the Community’s troubleshooting steps to reconnect my Nest to the network and deleting/reinstalling the app failed.

1. Unplugged WiFi/router, waited at least 30 seconds to restart it.

2. Nest thermostat — Settings > reset device to factory settings. I was then prompted to reselect language, login to network, etc. Once I did that, I noticed that “None” was listed under the Nest App bubble. Good.

3. iPhone — I deleted then reinstalled the Nest app and logged back in. The thermostat was now listed as offline. I navigated to the settings and removed the previously installed device.

4. iPhone — I then navigated back to the homepage which was now blank and added the device again via the + icon. When prompted to scan the QR code, I was rerouted to an instruction page on the web. So, I selected “Manual Entry” instead. I then walked over to my Nest thermostat to find my Entry Key under settings > Nest app. I typed in the Entry Key and was then prompted to select the serial number that matches the one in the Nest thermostat settings > Nest app > serial number. I then followed the rest of the installation instructions in the Nest app.

5. iPhone — I use the Home/Away function. So, I had to reselect the option to use my phone to determine when I’m home/away based on my location. NB. Location services > Allow access must be set to “always” for this to work properly.

6. iPhone — I have additional sensors, so I had to reselect those. I also went back in to the Manager Sensors option to use my bedroom sensor at Night (9p-7a), since it runs 2-3°F warmer than the room where the thermostat is located.

7. iPhone — When I reinstalled the device I selected auto-schedule, which uses machine learning to optimize a schedule. However, I still created a schedule to adjust heating/cooling to default to eco temps during peak hours.

That did it for me. Fingers crossed the Nest app doesn’t continue to disconnect on its own.
