maximum number of sensors with nest thermostat

I have one Nest thermostat and 6 sensors. I want to add more sensors. What is the limit?

I found the following information on the Google suppose page but it makes no sense

"How many can I have in my home?

You can have up to 6 sensors for each compatible Nest thermostat in your home, up to a total of 18 sensors."

If you only have 1 thermostat, the limit is 6 sensors because you can only associate 1 thermostat with up to 6 sensors. If you had more than 1 thermostat, that is where the second limit of up to 18 sensors per home in the app comes into play.
