nest learning thermostat

I'm having trouble getting power to my nest thermostat.  It worked fine for over a month, but hasn't worked for about a week.  I've checked all wires and everything appears ok.  Do I hire an AC tech or an electrician?

Is the thermostat completely off - no power? If so you might check to see if a circuit breaker and/or service shutoff switch needs to be turned on. The thermostat is powered from the furnace or HVAC unit. If it has no power the thermostat has no power (except for battery power which won't last very long without HVAC power).

Just out of curiosity does your thermostat have a C (common) wire attached?

To answer you specific question, in most cases it is best to contact an HVAC expert to work on it rather than an electrician. Though it is possible an electrician could be needed as well.

Hey folks,

Thanks for answering and for your suggestion, sporfrog.

csiegfried, how's your Nest thermostat now? Were you able to have your system checked by an HVAC technician?
