Do you happen to have a volt ohm multimeter? It would be nice to check the AC voltage between the R wire and the C wire.

Mine just failed yesterday as well. In my case though I didn't touch the system. Mine is an E104 error which implies that it is an overcurrent error and blames the furnace. I have had my furnace checked and it is operating 100% so I am convinced it is a NEST issue.

Mine says there is a problem with the g wire (connected to the fan).

@awcann , with a nest thermostat reports an error E104, the HVAC transformer had a power surge that was detected by the sensitive electronics in the nest thermostat. The nest thermostat is more sensitive to electrical over current situation than your HVAC equipment is. So if the voltage increase to greater than 29 V. The Nest detect the power surge, reports an error and shuts down the power interface to protect itself until it clears. You might want to have your HVAC equipment transformer checked to make sure that it’s not going bad.

@don817, were you able to check the voltage for AC wires?
I appreciate your help, @CoolingWizard.

Long story but yes I discovered the issue. Themostat tripped which shut down the furnace in a heating cycle, which then threw an HVAC error of “Limit Switch Circuit Open”. Upon reset of the Thermostat, the furnace would come back on for about 30 seconds and then shut down again. This cycle kept repeatin g itself. When I replaced my furnace last the techs installed the electronic air filter that was in the old furnace, but I stopped using it because of the cost of replacement filters. I started using standard filters and unplugged the electronic air filter. The plug was wired into the fan wire obviously and every now and then brushed up against the metal of my water heater which would generate a bit of an electrical surge to the thermostat, tripping it and starting the cycle. So upon unwiring this from the furnace, both the thermostat and the furnace are working perfectly. I would never in a million years think of this, but in retrospect it makes perfect sense. I would imagine this is pretty unique, but I thought I would share the specifics with everyone.

Hello awcann,
Happy to hear that! I appreciate the gesture. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will be locking this in 24 hours if we won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.
Thanks for your help, @CoolingWizard and Jenelyn.
All the best,
