nest thermostat keeps going into away mode

I work from home and my nest is constantly turning off the heat because it thinks I'm away. I've turned off auto-schedule and home/away assist in the app but it doesn't seem to matter. Getting really annoyed with this "smart" device always thinking I'm not home and that it knows better for me than I do. Why have a programmable thermostat that just does whatever the f it wants?

Yep, I've had the same thing. Yesterday it stopped doing it!

However it is still randomly not heating even when it says it is. At other times its fine.

I have a similar problem.  I have multiple Nest thermostats in different zones of my vacation home that I visit on the weekends.  I turn the heat on in the morning to warm the house for arrival in the evening.  It will often automatically turn off the heat within a couple hours of me turning it on.  It thinks I'm "not home??!!".   Yeah - I;m not home, but I need the heat turned on.  This is extremely annoying.

As I said before mine has stopped deciding to change the mode on its own BUT it is still saying its heating when it isn't. Totally inconsistent and unreliable.

Google please fix your software!!

My Google Nest App detects no activity because I am upstairs. My phone does not always have connection to the internet. As a result, the Thermostat switches to “Away” mode even though I am home and it keeps turning off the Heat. It is very frustrating and my feet are frozen. No help from Google of course.

Same issue and I end up freezing and then waiting ages for the house to warm up.

OK my problem is fixed.  The "not heating when it says it is" turns out not to be NEST. I had a sticky  valve!

i wake up to a hot apt when I want it cold . What is the solution ?

I have had the same problems for 2 years except with A/C.  It goes into Eco mode after an hour and there is no apparent way to tell it I’M HOME.  I hate Google & I hate that my daughter set up my nest app with Google home.  I’m ready to rip it out of my wall.  I have no other Google stuff in my home & will never.   Hot & angry. 🥵

Thanks for posting and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this. What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
