replace EMERSON thermostat to Google NEST

Hi all the talented community people.

I am not good with any electricity or wire but I think with all you knowledge i can definitely replace my old EMERSON to a new GOOGLE NEST.

My old thermostats is EMERSON and connected with RH RC. RH has 2 wire ( 1 red wire direct connected into RH and 1 red wire linked RH to RC). I also have a white wire connected to W/E. Green wire connected to G. and yellow wire connected to Y.

However, I do not see any W/E choice under NEST compatible checker. So i am pretty lost at this moment.

I dont know how to attach a picture to show this. So i used a google doc file and hopefully can make it easier.

Please help and hopefully use simple directions to help me

Thank you.

Best

Hi @PekingDuck

Thank you so much for posting in this community! I completely understand your situation and that you want to change your old Emerson thermostat to a new Nest Thermostat. For that reason, I appreciate the information about the wires and the photos of them. No worries, I'm happy to help you!

Right now, the Compatibility Checker page doesn't have a W/E option, only W and E. For that reason, you'll need to select W, Y, RH, RC, and G/G1. We have four options for Nest Thermostat compatibility, and they will be wired in the following way:

  • Nest Learning Thermostat (3rg and 4th gen)
    • Yellow - Y1
    • White - W1
    • Green - G
    • Red - RH
  • Nest Thermsotat
    • Yellow - Y
    • White - W
    • Green - G
    • Red - R
  • Nest Thermostat E:
    • Yellow - Y1
    • White - W1
    • Green - G
    • Red - R

You don't need the jumper between RH and RC because those thermostats don't require one.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,
Eduardo
