Adding older Google wifi point to Nest wifi network

I've been trying to connect an older Google wifi end point/router to my newer Nest wifi mesh network. I've factory reset the Google wifi point, and used Google Home to find it and set it up. I am able to find the device and start the set up, however Google Home doesn't connect the point to my existing network as I've seen it work for others. The app prompts me "Check WAN Connection" and then create a new wireless network with the Google wifi point as the router for that new network. I can't figure out a way to either switch the Google wifi point to my Nest wifi network or set it up that way originally. Any advice?! I'd rather not buy another Nest end point if I don't need to.

I just had the same issue.   First you need to create a new home with the new Nest Router.  You can use the same name and password so all devises will still log on like before.  You will need to use the QR code or the code on the bottom of the Nest ( it is really hard to see as it is just engraved in the back and not colored).

Next you have to deal with the older Google points. I unplugged each of my old points and reset them individually one at a time.  You press the reset button and after about 5 min it will show a solid blue light.  You can reset all of them before setting anything up as it takes a few minutes for them to reset.  They will be identified by the serial number on the bottom of the point in the WiFi app.   Select one in the app and add it to your system.

Google really needs to post better instructions.  Hope this helps. FYI do not use the flat modem wire that comes with the Nest.  It cannot handle high speeds. Get a round quality wire and you should have better speed.  Lastly, test the mesh in the app. The new app doesn’t show the point speeds, which sucks, but it works fine.  There is always some degradation at each connection. I have 1.11 G coming in and only 700 leaving the router.  My old points showed about 250 mb so there was loss.  Good luck.

Thx! I did something similar and it worked. Google help desk actually walked me through it. The core problem was that my Nest Wifi had been accidently set up another "home" in Google Home. I had to reset the Nest Wifi and start from scratch. All worked then.

Hi, jwoodlee.

It looks like you were able to get this sorted out with support, but I wanted to check in real fast to see if there's anything else you needed or to see if you're all set. If there's more I can do, just let me know and I'll be happy to jump in.

Thanks.

Hi, everyone.
As we haven't had any activity here recently I'm going to go ahead and close the thread. If you have more to add, feel free to start a new discussion.
Thanks

From my experimenting with the same as I had the older and upgraded to the newer, I found the old stuff really slowed down the speed of everything.  So I essentially got rid of them.  Something to play around with once yours is set up.
