Best Wi-Fi point setup

The Google Home app QR reader says “this is not the code you’re looking for” when pointed at the QR code sticker. Switching to the manual setup doesn’t work either because the 8 digit code on the bottom of the device is too short. The app requires 9 digits to be input. Phone support is worthless. Very frustrated.

Yes, the setup code is the one you referred to. I figured out the problem. The Google Home app controls both Nest and Google wifi routers, but does a poor job differentiating between them at set up time. Nest uses an 8 digit code, and presumably Google uses a 9 digit code. Once that was sorted out everything worked properly. I made an error to be sure, however there should be greater product differentiation to avoid this situation.

Hey jpsc,

Sorry for the frustrating experience you're having with setup. I'll be happy to help you out with that. The setup code that you are using is the one that's imprinted onto the rubber ring on the bottom of your Nest WiFi router, correct? It should only be 8 digits long, so I'm not sure why the app is asking you submit 9 digits. Is it possible for you to screenshot the app at the moment you enter the code and send a picture of the bottom of your device showing the setup code? I know it's a bit of a hassle, but it will help me get you some help on this. I look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Jeff
